Tonight i went down to the Mousetrap skate park to shoot some photos since i have not shot any skateboarding for some time. I was disappointed to see that the new lights, the city installed, were dimmer than the once previously lighting the park. It made it very hard to shoot because of how low lit every thing was. DC riders Mikey Taylor, Nick Dompierre, and Rob Dyrdek visited the Escapist skate shop, in Lee Summit, on June 10, 2011 to sign posters and give out tickets to Street League.  Street League is a skateboarding event that was founded by Rob Dyrdek and is coming to the Sprint Center, in Kansas City, on June 11th and 12th. June 7th, 2011 marked the first day of filming for "Old Park" a documentary skate video about the Mousetrap, a skatepark in northeast Topeka, Kan. The video is being produced by OriginalPro Films, with the help of photographer Anthony Richardson, and is expected to be released in the Fall of 2011.  Troy and Hunter have been skating at the Mousetrap for many years. The video will feature skateboarders who grew up at the Mousetrap and have many great memories of the park. On Sunday Sept. 5, a few Lawrence skateboarders met up with some videographers to head out to the streets to watch skateboarder JP Redman.  Redman was going to attempt to krooked grind a rail in the heart of the city. When the crew arrived at the skate spot, Redmon started his warm up doing a few ride ups to get the feel for the trick. His first attempt at the rail ended with him sliding and jumping out half way down the rail. During his attempts at one point Redmon slid the whole rail, popped off the end, but couldn’t quite stay on his board. For his next attempt, he added a wax to the rail to help him move smoother over the rail. The following attempt was not as successful for Redmon as he approached the rail he bailed early, wrapping his body between his rib cage and hip like a jack knife. There was about 20 seconds of silence before everyone moved closer to see if he was ok, which he was but was pretty shook up. “I was seeing stars for like a minute and my side feels weird,” said Redmon. He attempt a couple more rides towards the rail but he stopped and was done for the day. He was disappointed he could not get the trick because of everyone who should up to watch. “I really want to get this trick it’s so hard to get everyone together like this,” said Redmon. Redmon plans to return and try again on a future date. Shortly after two other skateboarders present headed to a ten stair area that was located near by.  Addison Toelkes and Josiah Tripoli name spell were both attempting tricks down the stair set. They alternated attempts back and fourth with Toe attempting a switch heelflip and last name attempting a varial heel flip. Toelkes rolled up to the stair set with considerable speed popping the board up with his back foot and flipping it with the heel of his front foot, sending it sailing over the stairs landing over the bolts riding away clean. Tripoli was still trying to stick the varial heel flip getting so close to landing it but he continued to shoot out. Then it happened he threw out a big very heel filp catching it high over the stair set landing with ease. Overall it was a productive day of skateboarding and gathering footage. The skateboarders continue to skate the Lawrence skate park until the next time they take their skills to the streets.   Slave Skateboards BBQ and Art show. 11/12/2010
 Local skateboarders had an opportunity to join the pros from the Slave skateboarding team from 3 p.m. until nearly dark last Friday as Escapist skate shop hosted a BBQ and skate jam at Penn Valley skate park in KC. Afterwards many reconvened down the street at Escapist skate shop for the First Friday gallery exhibition. “The whole Slave Team is here tonight, there are a lot of pro and amateur skateboarders here right now,” said co-owner of Escapist, Dan Askew. Allie has been skateboarding for 17 years and has previously skated Penn Valley with teams like Zero, Mystery, and Circa. This time around he joined Slave Skateboards for a skate jam before heading to Escapist for Ben Horton's art exhibition. Allie is originally known for his time spent with Zero and his roles in videos such as "Dying to Live" and "New Blood", both video products of Zero Skateboards. More recently he was approached by Ben Horton, owner of Slave Skateboards, to become a pro addition to the Slave team--which he accepted. "The Zero team was getting big and this was my chance to be more of an independent skateboarder," said Allie. Allie is currently on a small filming tour collecting footage for a promo video for Slave. "We aren't trying to do the first video again, we are just trying to skate and have fun. Everyone still goes and rips and does their thing but there's no set standards. As long as it looks good and feels good you can use it." said Allie. Allie is not in it for the money, he spends his time doing what he loves. Becoming a pro to him was about getting free boards so he could continue his dream. " Im not trying to make that million dollars, I'm just content with living," said Allie. Allie plans on continuing his career skateboarding for Slave and doing what he loves most, skateboarding. "No matter what it is you just have to be happy doing it. If you aren't happy with what your doing find something else otherwise it will burn you out," said Allie. July 27.       Jake Huggett skated the barrier in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on July 18, a day that topped out at 95 degrees. Huggett is 20 years old and has been skating for sevens years. In his free time he enjoys playing guitar and hanging out with friends. Here are some pictures from the barrier session and a few videos from 2007.
